LAHORE: Thunderstorm and rain in Lahore and elsewhere in the country on Tuesday brought back nip in the air.

More rain, heavy at places, is also forecast in the upper parts and northern Punjab in the next 24 hours.Normally, temperatures rise up to 40 degrees Celsius in the plains of the country during this part of April. But repeated rains this time are stopping summer to fully set in.

Rain in Lahore last (Wednesday) night and during the early hours of the day (Thursday) dropped the maximum temperature to 26.5 degrees C from 35 degrees C two days ago.

The local Met office recorded 22mm of rain at its Jail Road office and 20mm at the airport. It said temperatures also dropped in many cities in central Punjab and upper parts of the country because of rain generated by a westerly wave. The wave persisted over central and northeastern parts of the country with more intensity.

It said Lower Dir received 50mm of rain, Faisalabad 15mm, Balakot 14mm, Saidu Sharif and Muzaffarabad 12mm each, Chakwal 10mm, Sargodha, Malamjabba and Joharabad 9mm each, Mandi Bahauddin 8mm, Mianwali 7mm, Mirkhani 6mm, Sialkot Airport 5mm and Gujranwala 4mm.

It forecast fairly widespread thunderstorm/rain associated with gusty winds over Fata, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (with isolated moderate to heavy falls over Hazara, Mardan and Malakand divisions), Punjab (with isolated moderate to heavy falls over Rawalpindi division), Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir in the next 24 hours.
