PESHAWAR/MARDAN: The provincial chapter of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has decided to empower its district presidents to form alliances with other political parties for the forthcoming local bodies’ elections.

Addressing a workers’ meeting here on Monday, PPP leaders said that they would take active part in the local bodies elections’ to win maximum seats in all the districts and union and village councils.

PPP former provincial president Syed Zahir Ali Shah, former federal minister Arbab Alamgir Khan, MPA Nighat Orakzai, Malik Tamash, Akbar Khan and Zulfiqar Afghani addressed the meeting.

The meeting decided to stage a sit-in on G.T. Road near Hashtnagri on December 20 to protest price hike, worsening law and order situation and unemployment.

The speakers said that workers should participate in the death anniversary of PPP leader Benazir Bhutto at Ghari Khuda Bakhsh on Dec 27 and at a meeting in Bala Mani the same day.

They rejected grouping in the party and reposed confidence in the leadership of provincial president Khanzada Khan. They asked the workers to give up their personal differences and work for the success of the party’s nominees in the local bodies’ elections.

The speakers said that strict action would be taken against those, who violated party discipline and oppose party’s candidates in local bodies’ elections anywhere in the province.

The PPP leaders said that government failed to protect lives and properties of citizen.

They said that threats to peaceful citizens had created unrest among the people.

They said that federal and provincial governments were accusing each other for people problems.

In Mardan, Pakistan People’s Party, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter chief Khanzada Khan has urged the party workers to prepare for the upcoming local bodies’ elections.

Talking to a PPP delegation led by Senator Ahmad Hasan here on Monday, he vowed that the party would clean sweep the local government polls.

The delegation also included former MNA Malik Azmat Khan, ex-provincial minister Mehmood Zaib Khan, Zamin Khan, Khursheed Khan and other party leaders.

Mr Khanzada assured the delegation that efforts would be made to remove concerns of party leaders and workers to strengthen the PPP in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He criticised the KP and central governments for not delivering according to aspirations of the masses.

He said that the PPP was ready to extend cooperation to the governments if it launched people-friendly projects, but at the same time it would monitor and criticise their wrong policies.
