JHANG, Nov 12: The traditional 7th Muharram Zuljinnah procession was taken out from Imambargah Muhajireen in the most sensitive area of Jhang city and concluded at Imambargh Qademi here on Tuesday.

Extraordinary security arrangements were made by the district police and other law enforcement agencies along the procession route, while all roads and streets linking to Jhang city were sealed for all kinds of traffic. Mourners were allowed to enter the procession after thorough checking and scanning by walkthrough gates.

All markets, colleges, schools and public and private sector offices situated in the locality were closed. Bomb Disposal Squad, fire brigade and ambulances of Rescue 1122 remained on alert.

DCO Maqbool Ahamd along with DPO Zeeshan Asghar remained present at the sensitive Bab-i-Umar point of the route. The DCO appealed to the public to continue their support to the district administration and police in maintaining law and order.

DRAINAGE: The Faisalabad division commissioner lashed out at the district administration and irrigation department officials on their failure to drain out stagnant water of the Khairuwala drain in the vicinity of Jhang city and Saddar municipal limits. He expressed concern over poor maintenance by the departments concerned.

The drainage SE said after construction of the drain the river had changed its course and receded 3,500 feet away from the point where the drain fell into it. Secondly, he said, people had unlawfully constructed several bridges over the drain that had narrowed its course considerably.
