LAHORE, Oct 19: The police found on Saturday some clues about what might have been the cause of the murder of former senior tax official Mubeen Malik on the Eid day.

A senior police official requesting anonymity told Dawn that the slain tax official had developed property disputes within and outside the family.

He said the detectives had got some important information from family members and other relatives that the deceased had the property dispute.

He said the police also talked to office-bearers of two groups who were running the affairs of the CBR Housing Society.

Being society chairman, Mubeen would play a critical role in dealing matters of several disputed properties.

The police official said the cell phone of the slain tax official had been taken into custody and sent to the relevant authority to get the record of the call data.

Most of the recent calls made/received were related to those people who had direct or indirect link to the disputed property matters, he said.

Mubeen had also a dispute over his two kanal house at 1-K in Defence Housing Authority with his close relatives, the police official said while quoting sources in the family.

“Apparently police have not identified anyone in the investigation as any haste may alert those who plotted Mubeen’s murder,” he said.

Mubeen Malik, who was the husband of film actress Anjuman, was shot dead along with his driver on the Eid day when he had just reached his DHA residence. His young daughter was also critically injured in the armed attack.
