LAHORE, Sept 27: The City District Government of Lahore stopped on Friday all non-government agencies/organisations from handing over the destitute newborn babies to those seeking their adoption.

The CDGL also plans to develop a mechanism with an affective legislation for the safety and protection of destitute newborn babies.

A six-member committee is being constituted to prepare laws regarding handing over and adoption of such infants.

“Since the protection and growth of the destitute newborns is state’s responsibility, any organisation dealing with such an issue shouldn’t hand over these infants to anyone without involving the government officials concerned. The committee comprising lawyers and social development experts will soon be constituted in this regard,” DCO Nasim Sadiq said in a meeting.

The participants unanimously decided to ensure admission of such infants to hospitals for medical treatment if any organisation/agency found them at any place.

After admission, the medical superintendent of the respective hospital would inform the judge of the Child Protection Bureau and the CDGL.

The judge would time to time issue/pass the requisite orders for looking after, handing over, treatment and adoption of the infant.

Since the entire mechanism was being framed for the betterment of babies, no organisation would be allowed to independently handover those seeking their adoption, the meeting decided.

A two-member committee was also constituted on the occasion for seeking relevant information from the CPWB.

DENGUE: Commissioner Imdadullah Bosal directed officials on Friday to conduct an affective dengue surveillance of the Gawalmandi Food Street and adjoining localities.

Accompanying MPA Khwaja Salman Rafique, Mr Bosal visited door to door to ask residents about the visit of dengue teams in the area.

He also directed the officials to take stern action against those violating the dengue regulations repeatedly.

BOOKED: The CDGL claimed on Friday it had got registered cases against 218 butchers for illegal slaughtering during the current month till Sept 27.

According to a spokesman, the CDGL’s livestock wing raided 522 meat shops and imposed a fine of Rs121,000 on butchers.

The department also discarded unhygienic meat weighing 11,409kg and sealed 17 illegal slaughterhouses, he said.

FISH SUPPLY: The CDGL decided on Friday to provide fish to Lahorites on cheaper rates in the winter season.

The CDGL plans to establish fish sale/purchase points in the city where fish farmers will supply fresh fish directly without the involvement of commission agents, said a CDGL spokesman.

SEALED: A city administration taskforce sealed on Friday a factory after it detected stealing of gas through a direct connection at Yasrab Colony in Shadbagh.

Factory owners Haji Nasir Iqbal and Abdullah Nasir managed to escape, officials said.
