NAROWAL, Aug 26: Floods have affected 304 villages in the district and claimed 14 lives.

According to the figures given by the additional district collector of the loss caused by floods in Dek, Basantar and Baeen water channels, floodwater destroyed crops on 35,541 acres and brought down the roofs of at least 103 houses. As a result, 14 people were killed and 45 injured. Also, the floods displaced 222,260 residents of 304 villages.

Rescue-1122 saved the lives of 1,219 people and the district administration setup 12 flood relief camps. Teams of the district health department provided first aid to 1,013 people and medical teams were still working in flood affected areas.

Vaccination and treatment saved the lives of 40 people bitten by snakes. Teams of the livestock department vaccinated 10,370 animals for various diseases. The district administration distributed 2,000 packets of food to flood affected families.

District Coordination Officer Syed Najaf Iqbal said the administration was using all its energies and resources to provide relief to flood affected people. He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif gave Rs500,000 each to the families of eight people who died during the floods.

He said he had sent the names of other families too to the authorities for compensation. He said the district administration was estimating the losses caused by the floods.
