KARACHI, Aug 25: The Karachi Union of Journalists will resist attempts by the government, the Pemra or from any other quarter to impose any restraint on electronic media.

A resolution adopted at the annual general council of the KUJ on Saturday said the journalist community would thwart attempts by any quarter to suspend transmission of television channels.

The KUJ resolution came in the backdrop of statements by government functionaries after the Aug 15 standoff in Islamabad suggesting some restrictions on live coverage of such episodes.

Through another statement, the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) President Pervaiz Shaukat and General Secretary Amin Yusuf also declared that they would oppose any move to put curbs on TV channels. Amin Yusuf, KUJ President G. M. Jamali and General Secretary Fahim Siddiqui were among the speakers at the KUJ meeting.
