KARACHI, April 5: The top seeds have a smooth sailing over their opponents before making their way into the juniors’ under-18 singles semi-finals in the NBP Open national juniors ranking tennis championship at Karachi Club on Thursday.

Pakistan No 1 in the juniors and top seed, Adil Kohari, who got a first round bye, blanked Nazif Ahmed 6-0, 6-0 in the second round.

Second seed Talha Zubair Surmawala, third seed Saad Noor and fourth seed Nofil Kaleem completed the quartet by registering emphatic victories.

Meanwhile, Nofil together with Jalaluddin Baber also propelled in the under-14 singles semi-finals. Islamabad-based Nofil, who is also top seed, convincingly beat M. Raza Sawani 6-1, 6-1 while Jalaluddin whipped Shazil Malik 6-3, 6-2 in the two quarter-finals.

Results: Juniors’ under-18 singles: First round: Nazif Ahmed bt Shahroz (walkover).

Quarter-finals: Nofil Kaleem bt Fahad Khan 6-4, 6-2; Talha Zubair Surmawala bt Salman Khan 6-0, 4-0 (retired); Saad Noor bt Aqeel Shabbir 6-3, 6-1; Adil Kohari bt Nazif Ahmed 6-0, 6-0.

Boys’ under-16 singles: First round: Dawar Rehan bt Salman 6-0, (retired); Marib Malik bt Aqeel Shabbir (walkover); Shahroz bt Nazif Ahmed 6-2, 6-0.

Boys’ under-14 singles: Quarter-finals: Nofil Kaleem bt M Raza Sawani 6-1, 6-1; Jalaluddin Baber bt Shahzil Malik 6-3, 6-2.

Ladies singles: First round: Wania Khan bt Humaira Saad 6-4, 7-5.
