ISLAMABAD Pakistan Army's Adnan Anjum created a stir in the 42nd National Athletics Championship, setting a new national record in the pole vault event, clearing a height of 4.91 metres at the Jinnah Stadium, Pakistan Sports Complex, here on Wednesday.

Mohammad Jaffar of Army came in second, clearing 4.70m while Wapda's Mohammad Ismail finshed third clearing 4.20m.

In the 400m hurdles event, Army's Haq Nawaz bagged first position, clocking 53.22secs while Nazakat Ali and Bilal Maqsood from Wapda clocked 54.94secs and 55.91secs, finishing second and third, respectively.

In the women's hammer throw, Razia Sultana from Wapda cleared 37.44m, securing first position while Railway's Abida Changez dispatched the hammer to 32.23m. Wapda's Nazia Kausar stood third on the podium throwing it at a 32.14m distance.

In the men's 400m race, Army's Sheda Younus bagged first position with a time of 49.29secs and Kamran from Pakistan Air Force (PAF) in second place with 49.30secs while Saeed Ahmed from Wapda completed the race in 49.38secs, finishing third.

Mohammad Nawaz and Mohammad Ashraf from Army cleared the race in 926 and 933.7secs clinching the first and second position in the 3,000m steeplechase event while Navy's Ahsan Ali was third with 934.5secs.

Mohsin Ali and Sajjad from PAF cleared the 110m hurdles race in 14.40 and 14.82secs gaining first and second position, respectively, while Wapda's Abdul Rashid contended on third position recording 14.90secs.

Muzamil Ilyas and Sumaira Tayyab from Wapda were placed first and second on the podium clearing 110m hurdles race in a span of 15.24 and 15.51secs while Nosheen Parveen from Pakistan Steel finished third, clearing the event in 16.67secs.

The top position in the long jump event went to Wapda's Fayyaz Ahmed who recorded a jump at 7.50m while Army's Zaffar Iqbal and Shahid Mehmood secured second and third position, respectively, clearing the event with a distance of 7.31 and 6.89m.
