ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday heard the NICL corruption case, DawnNews reported.

A three-judge bench of the apex court comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Jawwad S. Khwaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain heard the case regarding alleged corruption in the affairs of the National Insurance Company Limited.

Criticising the FIA’s performance, the chief justice inquired of Director General FIA Fayyaz Leghari as to why the agency was slow to recover the money.

Justice Iftikhar moreover warned that if the FIA failed to recover the money, the case would be forwarded to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

FIA’s Director Legal Muhammad Azam Khan told the bench that the only recovery still to be made was worth rupees 480,000,000 and that it was to be made from Lahore.

Khan moreover told the court that an FIR had been registered against members of the Warraich family after their cheques bounced.

He further said that a five-year agreement had been made with the Warraich family over the recovery of some 420,000,000 rupees.

FIA should make the recoveries otherwise a case would be registered against DG FIA, the chief justice said in his remarks.
The counsel for Mohsin Warraich, one of the accused in the NICL scam, said that he had communicated with his client and had asked him to return to the country and clarify his record.

The hearing was subsequently adjourned for a period of three weeks.
