LAKKI MARWAT: Three people including two women were killed when roof of a mud house collapsed amid heavy downpour in Serai Naurang town here on Thursday.

A Rescue 1122 official said that they immediately sent a team to the site when the control room received information about the incident.

He said the bodies were retrieved from the debris and shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. “The deceased were identified as Suriya, 45, Anar Bibi, 50, and Shokat, 15, residents of Naurang town,” he added.

In another roof collapse incident, four head of cattle were killed in the Kotka Barakhan Paikasht area of Bettani subdivision.

On Wednesday night, clouds started hovering in the sky and a drizzle started which soon turned into torrential rain.

The downpour continued till Thursday morning with intervals, inundating roads and streets and causing suspension of electricity to urban and rural areas of the district.

Though the torrential rain added to the troubles of citizens, it also provided them with a sigh of relief as temperature decreased and weather turned pleasant.

Deputy commissioner Zeeshan Abdullah sent his administration officials to the affected areas to assess rain-related losses and provide the affected families with relief items.

Assistant Commissioner Sultan Nooruddin Ahmer and additional ACs Gohar Ali Khan and Mehboobur Rehman distributed food and non-food items among the affected families.

They assured them that the provincial government would also provide them compensation.
