KARACHI: Four members of the Tableeghi Jamaat were shot at and wounded when they were preaching in F. B Area, Block-17, on Wednesday evening, officials said.

As a group of eight people knocked at the door of someone in a street, two gunmen riding a motorcycle and wearing helmets appeared on the road and opened fire on them and fled, said Central SSP Muqadas Haider.

Four people sustained wounds and were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment. Three of them were in stable condition while the fourth one needed a surgery, added the officer quoting the hospital officials as saying.

The gunmen used the 9mm pistol and the investigators collected five spent bullet casings from the crime scene, the police added.

The SSP said it was the routine of the Tableeghi Jamaat members to visit different areas for preaching.

Man found shot dead in car

A 55-year-old man was found shot dead in the Manghopir area on Wednesday, police said.

Abdul Shakoor’s body with bullet wounds on his head was found in a car parked in Mohammed Khan Colony in Ittehad Town.

The victim had left his home in Rasheedabad in Baldia Town on Tuesday afternoon but did not return back, said Manghopir SHO Ghulam Husain Korai quoting the victim’s family as saying.

He had a rent-a-car business in Boulton Market since past over 20 years.

The deceased’s son, Mohammed Hakim, who received the body, told the police that his father had been with his friend. The son refused to divulge more information, the officer added.

The police suspected that he had been killed somewhere on Tuesday as no spent bullet casing was found from the crime scene.

Body found in Gulbahar

An unidentified man was found shot dead in the Gulbahar area on Wednesday, police said.

The body of around 50-year-old man was recovered from the Lyari riverbed. The body bore bullet wounds on his head, said Gulbahar SHO Ghulam Asghar Abbasi.

The victim was clad in a white shalwar kameez and from his appearance looked Baloch.

Man found dead on Superhighway

A body of a man in his 60s wrapped in a bed sheet was found near the Buraq petrol pump off the Superhighway within the remit of the Sohrab Goth police station.

Sohrab Goth SHO Aziz Sheikh quoting the doctors of the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital said that he had been poisoned. The body was taken to the Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth for want of identification.
