GHALANAI: The political administration of upper sub-division of Mohmand Agency on Tuesday destroyed poppy crop over 50 kanals in different areas of Haleemzai tehsil with the help of local elders.

Assistant political agent Jamshed Khan told Dawn that the political administration had started poppy eradication campaign through jirgas of the local tribesmen in Yaseen Kor, Kas Kor and Shah Baig in Haleemzai tehsil of Mohmand Agency.

Other officials said that the administration had asked the tribesmen to voluntarily eradicate poppy crop. They said that the jirgas would continue to mobilise the tribesmen and ensure eradication of poppy crops in the area. He said that the government’s writ would be restored at any cost.

Mr Khan said that the campaign was started on the directives of political agent Khushal Khan.
