LAHORE, Oct 11: The Punjab government has appointed professor of paediatric cardiology Dr Masood Sadiq dean of Children’s Hospital. A notification was issued on Friday.

The post of dean/head of Institute of Child Health had been vacant after the retirement of Prof Tahir Masood Ahmed. Currently Medical Director Dr Ahsan Waheed Rathore was holding the additional charge.

The chief minister had constituted a committee, headed by former bureaucrat Mehr Jeevan Khan, Prof Aamir Aziz and Prof Sajid Maqbool (former dean of Children’s Hospital), which interviewed senior professors and unanimously recommended Dr Sadiq for appointment as dean. The interviews were held on Sept 27.

Dr Sadiq is a professor of paediatric cardiology and heads cardiac services at Children’s Hospital since 2002.

He is a graduate of King Edward Medical College and received postgraduate training in the UK from Hospital for Sick Children, GOS, London, and Children’s Hospital, Birmingham.

Dr Sadiq was awarded Wasti Memorial Gold Medal by the Punjab governor in 1998. He was recently awarded the ‘Best Presenter’ award in Miami, US, by international medical organisation PICS-AICS. He was awarded ‘Tamgha-i-Imtiaz’ by the government in 2010.
