KARACHI, Aug 18 District South 'G' won their first-ever major title when they humbled formidable Habib Bank 62-49 in an exciting final of the 3rd NBP President's Cup basketball tournament at the Arambagh floodlit court on Tuesday evening.

The winners led 62-49 at the half time. Earlier, they had qualified to face the bankers by getting better of District South 'W' 78-65 in the second semi-final on Monday evening.

The winners set the pace against former national champions right from the start and maintained it till the final hooter.

Ahad Javeri was on a shooting spree, scoring highest 19 points in his team's triumph. He got full support from Fahad Ahmed who contributed 16 while Shakir Hashim scored 9.

The bankers, who were slow to match the fast pace, lagged behind in all the four quarters. Mohammad Azam was outstanding for them, scoring 15 points while Mohammad Umer and Altaf Habib contributed 13 points apiece.

Shakir, Hashim and Raja Zahid were architect of District South 'G' victory over District South 'W' the other day. The winners led 30-24 at the breather.

Shakir emerged top scorer with 22 while Ahad was equally good with 20. Zahid was the other notable scorer with 13. Ashraf Yayha and Adnan Ali scored 22 and 16 for the losers.

The EDO Community Development, CDGK, Rehana Saif, graced the finals and gave away the prizes. She promised to help improve the Arambagh and Nishtar basketball club courts. President of the Sindh Amateur Basketball Association, Brig (retired) Rashid Malik, gave Rs5,000 cash prize to Ahad Javeri who was declared the 'Best Player of the Tournament'.
