LAHORE, Aug 21 Multan-born striker Arif Mahmood slammed his second hat-trick of the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) as Wapda beat Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) 3-2 at the Railway Stadium, Lahore, on Friday.

Arif Mahmood has raised his tally to 11 with three against PIA on Friday. He opened the scoring in the seventh minute from the penalty mark and added another in the 14th minute.

But PIA staged a remarkable recovery to reduce the arrears. Spearhead Shakir Lashari made it 1-2 in the 31st minute with his first goal of the show. Wapda led 2-1 at interval.

Wing fullback Abdul Jabbar sent Wapda's keeper Abdul Aziz on the wrong foot with a 77th minute leveler but Arif turned the tide again in his team's favour with a brilliant winner in the 84th minute.

Meanwhile, Tandlianwala-born international striker Mohammad Asif snatched an injury-time winner as National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) earned their first win of the competition by beating Lahores Pak Elektron Limited (PEL) at Punjab Stadium.

NBP played the match under Zahid Taj's coaching as Nasir Ismail was not allowed to sit on the team bench.

NBP were the better outfit right from the word go. The lone goal of the match was created by substitute winger Mohammad Ismail in the first minute of injury time when his forceful angular drive kissed the cross bar and rebounded into the ground where Asif was awaiting his chance to steer the ball over the line through a crowded six-yard box. It was Asif's third goal of the event.—Agencies
