ISLAMABAD, April 26: President Pervez Musharraf is expected to visit the United States in the third week of June, official sources told Dawn on Saturday.

“President Musharraf’s visit will take place in June and currently dates are being worked out through diplomatic channels,” the sources said.

President Musharraf will be going to Washington on the special invitation of President Bush. Both the leaders are expected to hold wide-ranging talks, covering important bilateral, regional and international issues.

President Bush has on several occasions acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan’s role in the campaign against the Taliban and Al Qaeda. He has on several occasions personally thanked President Musharraf for his “excellent” cooperation on this front.

Prime Minister Zafarullah Jamali’s visit to the US will be planned at a later stage, the sources said. His visit scheduled earlier in March was called-off in view of the impending US-led attack on Iraq and the domestic sensitivities on the issue at that time.
