Passengers in Chitral overcharged

Published April 24, 2003

CHITRAL, April 23: Transporters are overcharging on various routes within the district with the Regional Transport Authority evincing indifference to control fare, shows a survey.

Nazims of various Tehsil and union councils have fixed fares, encroaching upon the jurisdiction of the RTA.

Commuters said transporters were already overcharging before they multiplied fares about a month ago when the prices of petroleum were increased. Fares were raised by as high as Rs50 rupees for the longest routes to upper Chitral by transporters themselves while for many other routes Nazims fixed them.
