KARACHI, March 27 The staff of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), the National Institute of Child Health (NICH) and the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) staged a protest demonstration and observed a sit-in outside the Karachi Press Club here on Saturday against a proposal to place the JPMC under the Sindh government.

The demonstration was led by JPMC joint deputy director and official in charge of the trauma centre Dr Seemi Jamali and Prof Ghulam Mehboob while a large number of representatives of Sindh Peoples Paramedical Staff Association and Provincial Nurses Association Sindh also took part in the protest.

Speaking at the protest demonstration, Dr Seemi Jamali said they would not allow the government to place the JPMC under the control of the Sindh government.

She appealed to President Asif Ali Zardari to resolve this issue amicably because the JPMC is the symbol of the federation.

The protesters marched from the JPMC to the Karachi Press Club where they blocked the road suspending traffic for two hours.—PPI
