HYDERABAD: Civic life remained paralysed in Hyderabad as the city received intermittent rainfall on Sunday.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the Met Office in Latifabad recorded 42mm of rain until 5pm, while the City Office recorded 40mm.

Power outages were also reported in Hyderabad. The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) spokesperson claimed that electricity supply remained suspended on 285 of the company’s 722 11kV feeders.

In Hyderabad city, which has 166 feeders, 66 feeders were unable to provide electricity, he confirmed.

All major arteries and roads in the city were inundated due to rainfall. Meanwhile, water supply was severely affected as the facilities of the Hyderabad Water and Sewerage Corporation (HWSC) remained without electricity.

In the absence of electricity and with roads inundated, business activities were also affected. Trade activities in the City Cloth Market, Tower Market, Anaj Mandi and Latifabad Units 5, 10, 11 and 12 were disrupted as roads remained submerged.

Elsewhere in Sindh, Mithi district recorded the highest rainfall, at 126mm, until 8am on Sunday, according to the PMD. It was followed by Chhor, which received 81mm of rain, and Badin, with 69mm.

A day earlier, PMD had forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across parts of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan until Aug 4.
