LAHORE, June 2 On the directives of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, 52 monuments of Multan will be preserved and rehabilitated on the pattern Morocco's city Fez, sources in the Federal Archeology Department told Dawn.

The preservation will be done as per prime minister's five years special development package for Multan which he announced in 2008. Sources said a PC-II for survey, documentation and feasibility studies to upgrade the monuments had been prepared.

The documentation will include photographic and graphic data, architectural drawings and history of interventions, geo-technical studies of all monuments, including the causes of deteriorations. Studies will also include proposals to remove encroachments and shabby structures in the vicinity of the monuments.

Up to Rs20.300 million has been approved as initial cost of the project. The study will be completed in six months and Rs10.300 million will be released in the current financial year.
