DADU, April 15 Thirty-two health facilities in rural areas of Dadu district are working without any budgetary allocations as the approval of summary for new expenditures (SNEs) has been pending for the last 12 years, according to official sources.

Sources in the district health department told this correspondent that partial funds for other facilities were used to run these facilities but the funds remained inadequate.

The facilities short of funds include Basic Health Units of Khero, Pipri, Jhaloo, Nau Goth, Bali Shah, Chowkhandi, Mitho Babar, Rawat Khan Leghari, Phulji village, Sawaro and Pat Gul Mohammad villages and experimental dispensaries of Hatim Jatoi, Ahmed Khan Jatoi, Sher Mohammad Solangi, Khasa Chandio, Shahnawaz Mastoi, Shafi Mohammad Panhwar, Butra Panhwar, Ghulam Panhwar, Radhan, Kamangar, Sohrab Khan Bughio, Ibrahim Sand, Moro Chandio, Modo, Bahadur Khan Naich and Khuda Bux Solangi villages, Shah Panjo Mother and Child Centre, dispensaries of Bothro, Loung Tunio villages and Rural Health Centre Drigh Bala, Subhan Jatoi. A villager living near Hatim Jatoi dispensary for last many years said that no health official visited the dispensary or provided medicines. He said that the villagers had provided the building for this facility to health department.

Another villager, Naban Babar complained that due to the shortage of drugs in Mitho Babar basic health unit, people face problems and take patients to taluka hospital Khairpur Nathan Shah or Civil Hospital Dadu. He said their requests for provision of staff and medicines fell on deaf ears.

EDO health Dadu, Dr Qalandar Bux Khuhro said that the EDO office was facing problems in providing drugs and staff to 32 health facilities. He said that parts of funds for other facilities are used to run these facilities.

Forty-eight health facilities were handed over to Peoples Primary Healthcare Initiative under public-private partnership, he added.

He accused the PPH officials of not cooperating for other facilities whose SNEs are yet to be approved.

Amanat Shar, the support manager of PPH, Dadu, said only nine per cent share of health budget was issued to them which was insufficient for 48 health facilities.
