KARACHI, June 21 Although the maximum temperature recorded on Monday was 34 degrees centigrade — which the Met Office dismissed as “not that high” for Karachi in June — it was the sharp rise in humidity that made the ongoing heatwave slightly more uncomfortable and sweaty.
Weatherman Mohammad Riaz told Dawn that the minimum temperature recorded in the city on Monday was 28 degrees centigrade with humidity — or the amount of moisture in the air — rising to 70 per cent.
He said that such high humidity made a heatwave more punishing even if temperatures were normally high in summer.
He explained that 34 degrees centigrade — not unusual in June — with 70 per cent humidity would make weather conditions as unbearable as under 50 degrees centigrade with low humidity.
According to his forecast for Tuesday, the day would remain hot and dry with the maximum temperature ranging between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius.
