Sukkur braves outages in Ramazan

SUKKUR, Aug 26 Frequent breakdowns and tripping besides, the scheduled six to eight hours of loadshedding have made the lives of people of Sukkur and its adjoining areas, miserable more-so-ever in Ramazan.

The favourite hours of Hesco to deprive people of electricity are at Iftari, Sehri and during Taraveeh.

The announced or unannounced loadshedding of six to eight hours multiplied by 10 to 15 times of tripping of feeders have made it impossible for people to carry out their daily routine.

Officials at a grid station said that the high-ups were well aware of the condition of the grid stations but did nothing to alleviate the problem.

Another official said that Hesco officials knew the vulnerable condition of grid stations and despite repeated requests, avoided shifting some load from City grid station to Arain which was running below the capacity. He added that shifting of one or two feeders would have hardly taken a few hours but they were covering line losses from frequent tripping.

The loadshedding schedule was wrongly prepared by the deputy director technical creating imbalances, he said adding “I even visited his office today with the request to change the timings but of no use.”

Dawn correspondent repeatedly tried to contact the Chief Engineer Power, Sukkur, Shamsuddin Shaikh, and Superintendent Engineer Mazharuddin Ujjan to seek their comments about worst power crisis but their cell phones were switched off and the Executive Engineer Operation Ashfaq Bhatti didn't attend the call.
