Hyderabad uplift

Published October 23, 2009

WATER supply and sanitation in Hyderabad are getting worse day by day. Water quality is poor. No proper water treatment is done. Raw water is mixed with poorly-treated water to meet the water quantity requirements.

Sewage treatment is hopeless. In fact, technically, there is no treatment. Sewage is discharged into canals causing water pollution. Industrial sewage discharged into Phuleli Canal and KB Feeder Canal is playing havoc with these water bodies.

Roads are in bad shape. Structural quality of recently constructed flyovers is poor. Stormwater drainage is non existent.

Air pollutants exceed the prescribed WHO limits, as seen with naked eyes. The same is the case in Hala, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Shikarpur and Khairpur.

President Asif Ali Zardari has been in office for over one year. I urge the president to visit the neglected cities and visit the poor people.
