Tuition centres

Published

I want to draw the attention of the authorities concerned to the growing culture of tuition centres in our part of the world.

It is painful to witness that government schools and colleges, which were very effective only a decade ago, have enormously declined in standard. This leaves parents of schoolgoing children with no other option but to turn to tuition centres to provide their children with quality education. Due to this, parents are stretched physically, mentally and financially as they are sucked into this tuition maelstrom along with their children.

Our substandard education system is no hidden secret. As a result, coaching centres are popping up all over the country, encouraging students to cram and preparing them only for their examinations using outdated guides and decades-old notes. In a nutshell, their motive is to make money and not impart education or provide knowledge.

It is time the authorities took major steps to abolish the tuition system and improved on the quality of education being provided in government institutions.
