LAHORE, Feb 8: The Young Doctors Association Punjab has said that hundreds of doctors from all over the province will reach Nishtar Colony on Sunday (tomorrow) to meet Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif during the inaugural ceremony of the Metro Bus Service.

“Hundreds of young doctors will besiege the MBS inaugural ceremony on Sunday if our demands are not met,” YDA spokesman Dr Nasir Bukhari said on the 5th day of doctors’ hunger strike on Friday. Other young doctors on strike were also present on the occasion.

Talking to the media, Dr Bukhari said the young doctors would present their charter of demands to the chief minister at the ceremony.

“We will inform Shahbaz Sharif about facts of the Gujranwala incident on the basis of which the health department is discriminating against us,” Dr Bukhari said.

He said health department officials were misleading the chief minister to avenge young doctors for starting a movement for service structure.

“Our 250 colleagues have been either terminated or suspended by the health department in the aftermath of the Gujranwala incident,” he said, adding that nobody from the health department contacted young doctors after the last meeting between three principals of government medical institutions and a YDA delegation.

It is said that two more doctors fainted on Friday after they complained about low sugar level and stomach pain. Dr Zeeshan was shifted to the emergency department of the Punjab Institute of Cardiology and Dr Hannan to the Services Hospital. They rejoined the hunger strike camp after getting treatment at the hospitals.

Also, young doctors took out a rally on Jail Road to express solidarity with their striking colleagues.

YDA media secretary Dr Khurram Shahzad said PPP leader Shaukat Basra again visited the strike camp and extended his full support to young doctors.
