ISLAMABAD, Feb 6: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has said that ongoing intra-party elections will be completed by March 15 and 80,000 elected office-bearers will gather at Minar-i-Pakistan on March 23 to take oath of their offices.

“A positive change is taking place (in the country’s politics) as people from working class are being elected in PTI polls. These people can bring about change in the country,” he said in a statement issued by the PTI’s secretariat on Wednesday.

He said that Humayon Chacha, a tailor, had been elected president of the Kohat district chapter of PTI, and added that many other elected office-bearers belonged to the working class. He said PTI would soon hold negotiations with political leaders, including Pir Pagara, Ayaz Latif Palijo and the leadership of Jamaat-i-Islami.

About PTI’s reservations on the composition of the Election Commission of Pakistan, he said the Constitution envisaged a neutral commission but members of the ECP were “not impartial”.

“We have conveyed our reservations to the commission with evidences but they have paid no heed.”

Calling for the appointment of a neutral caretaker prime minister, he said PTI wanted free, fair and impartial elections as the coming polls were crucial for the country.

He said Dr Tahirul Qadri sought dissolution of parliament through long march but PTI wanted to bring change through constitutional means.
