QUETTA, Jan 13: The city wore a deserted look on Sunday as a strike was observed here in protest against the relentless killing of people of Shia Hazara community in terrorist attacks. The strike call was given by the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party and endorsed by the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (F), Awami National Party, other political parties and traders.

Bazaars, shopping centres, business establishments and shops remained closed in the commercial areas of the city.

Even restaurants, medical stores, bakeries and bread shops were closed throughout the city. Vehicular traffic was thin in the city and its suburbs as people preferred to remain inside their houses. Heavy contingents of police, Frontier Corps and Balochistan Constabulary were deployed at important places and roads.

The roads leading to Alamdar road and adjoining areas had been sealed by the administration with the deployment of hundreds of personnel of security forces.

Nobody was allowed to move to Alamdar Road where people of Hazara community, with 86 coffins of the victims of Thursday’s terrorist attacks, have staged a sit-in since Friday.
