KARACHI: Adnan Rasool and Mohammad Khalil shared 17 wickets between them to help Lahore Ravi score their first victory in the Faysal Bank Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship with a crushing defeat of Quetta at the LCCA Ground in Lahore on Friday.

Adnan, the 31-year-old off-spinner, bagged nine wickets for 89 in the match with left-arm discarded Test paceman Khalil chipping with a haul of eight for 79 as the Ravians whipped Quetta by an innings and 72 runs in the Group-I fixture.

Adnan, who had taken three wickets overnight in the visitors’ first innings total of 213-7, snared two more victims to finish with five for 67 in 36.3 overs as Quetta were eventually dismissed for 236 with Qaiser Abbas making 117. The former Test left-hander hit 17 boundaries during his 202-ball effort.

Forced to follow on, Quetta fared even worse they capitulated inside 57 and a half overs for a measly score of 106 with Qaiser again emerging as the top scorer. This time he made 27.

Khalil was the main wicket-taker in the second innings with five for 44 in 16 overs. But it was Adnan who caught the eye with astonishing analysis of four wickets for 22 runs in 28.3 overs with no less than 17 of them being maidens.

The remaining three fixtures ending on Friday were all drawn. Wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan celebrated his naming as one of the stand-byes for the coming Pakistan’s tour of South Africa, with a resolute 89 off 192 balls (nine boundaries) as Peshawar reached 294-5 in their second innings against Multan at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

Opener Israrullah also played a key role with a superb knock of 127 while dominating the second-wicket partnership of 214 with Rizwan. The 22-year-old left-hander adorned his 233-ball knock with17 hits to the fence.

Lahore Shalimar posted 458 in reply to Faisalabad’s first-innings tally of 265 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Umar Akmal, who resumed at 102, was out for 107, but wicket-keeper Hafiz Mohammad Zohaib batted well to contribute 85.

Abbottabad’s paceman Ahmed Jamal returned match figures of 11-176 against Bahawalpur at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi. Ahmed claimed five for 96 as Bahawalpur made 296 in their second innings after beginning the fourth and final day at 96-3.

Former Pakistan players Kamran Hussain (79 off 131 balls, eight fours and one six) and Zulqarnain Haider (51 off 99 balls, seven boundaries) added 94 for the seventh wicket at critical juncture to dig their side out of trouble.
