KARACHI, Jan 2: Tariq Road traders resorted to violent protest on Wednesday against the detention of some people from two shopping malls of the city’s major shopping district.

The protesting traders burnt tyres and erected barricades at the traffic intersection, causing traffic congestion on Tariq Road, Khalid Bin Waleed Road and adjoining lanes.

A senior police officer of the area said that late Tuesday night some personnel of the Rangers’ intelligence wing had raided the two shopping centres of Tariq Road within the remit of the Ferozabad police station.

The Rangers’ personnel detained some persons, who were taken to some undisclosed location, the officer said.

On Wednesday, traders in the locality kept their businesses closed in protest and staged a protest demonstration. They also placed burning tyres and crates on the road, suspending traffic for some time.
