RAWALPINDI, Dec 23: As many as 13 police officials, including a woman station house officer (SHO), were booked by the Sadiqabad police on the charges of keeping two women in illegal confinement.

The incident would have been hushed up had the victims not decided to approach the court for the registration of a case against the police personnel.

Ms Mehmooda, a resident of Jhelum, along with her sister was waiting for a bus at Faizabad on May 30, 2012, when someone considered them suspicious and called the police.

A police team led by SHO Sadiqbad Karim Nawaz Niazi and consisting of Inspector Ghulam Tabasum, Sub-Inspector Qasim Ali and constable Tabasum Rabbani along with woman SHO Bushra Batool and her eight subordinates reached the spot and took the two sisters into custody. When contacted, Shoaib Aqeel, the deputy superintendent of the police, said the two women were taken into custody by the women police and shifted to the police station.

He added that the women quarreled with the police when they were being taken into custody. Later, they were driven to their hometown in Jhelum and handed over to the district police officer there.

While on way to Jhelum, the women kept on banging their heads against the van in protest, but to no avail.

After their release, the two sisters approached Additional Sessions Judge Aslam Gondal for registration of a case against the police. On the court directives, an FIR was registered with the Sadiqabad police against the 13 police personnel on December 21. However, no arrests have been made so far.
