NEW DELHI: The US Assistant Secretary of State for Far Eastern Affairs, Mr Averell Harriman, today (Nov 28) took strong objection to the criticism in Pakistan of American arms rush to India, and said: “No country in the world can dictate to US what her policies should be.”

Addressing a Press conference here, he said that as far as his country was concerned, Kashmir was a question between India and Pakistan.

Mr Harriman said in his talks with Mr Nehru and other Indian leaders there was no discussions “at all” about ways and means for the solution of the Kashmir problem.

Mr Harriman said he believed the US decision to give assistance to India was “a very wise decision” and Pakistan would gain as much out of this assistance as India herself. The USA, he added, would “regret” if Pakistan did not agree.

He said he was going to Rawalpindi to see President Ayub and to “discuss anything that might be on his mind — about our decisions or about our (US) doing”.—Correspondent
