KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari will address a special session of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Monday – the first time a Pakistani head of state has addressed the provincial assembly.

“President Asif Zardari will be the first head of state to address the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly,” said KP Assembly speaker Karamatullah Chagharmati. “The president’s address will be an honour for the people of the province and their representatives.”

The speaker said that he had invited the president to address the KP assembly during the SAARC conference in Islamabad last week. He said that an assembly speaker has the authority to invite the head of the state or any prominent personality to address a special session of the assembly.

He said that he had discussed the agenda for the special session with the opposition and that all members of the assembly would welcome the president.
