PESHAWAR, Nov 17: President Asif Zardari will address a special session of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Monday.

Asif Zardari will be the first head of the state to address the provincial assembly. Speaker Karamatullah Chagharmati told Dawn on Saturday he had invited President Zardari during Saarc Conference in Islamabad to address the assembly.

“The president’s visit and address to the legislators will be a great honour for the assembly and people of the province,” he said which he believed was happening first time in the national history. Under the assembly rules of business, the governor can address special session. However, Mr Chagharmati said speaker had powers to relax rules and invite head of the state or any high profile dignitary to address the special session of the provincial assembly. He said he had discussed agenda of the special session with the opposition benches and all members would receive President Zardari according to Pakhtun traditions.—Bureau Report
