ISLAMABAD: The International Cricket Council has told the Pakistan Cricket Board that a team comprising of international players cannot call itself a World XI in Karachi this weekend.

ICC spokesman Samiul Hasan told The Associated Press in a text message that it “doesn't permit the names of World or World XI for exhibition matches” and a letter was sent to the PCB on Wednesday.

Former Sri Lanka captain Sanath Jayasuriya will lead players from West Indies, South Africa and Afghanistan against a Pakistan All Stars side in exhibition matches on Saturday and Sunday, the first major international cricket in the country in more than three years.

The PCB has allowed its centrally contracted players to play in the matches organized by a provincial sports minister.
