KARACHI, Sept 17: A doctor was gunned down in an Orangi Town locality on Monday.

Police said the killing took place in Mohammad Mustafa Colony near Rehmat Chowk, Sector 11½, where gunmen riding a motorcycle targeted Dr Shahzad Ahmed, who was driving his car, and escaped.

The wounded doctor was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, but he died on his way to hospital, the police said.

Quoting hospital sources, the police said the doctor had suffered four gunshot wounds.

An officer of the Iqbal Market police station said the slain doctor had his clinic, Ahsan Medical Centre, in Mohammad Mustafa Colony. He was driving to the clinic when attacked, the officer said.

He was also an employee of the Sindh Government Hospital Orangi Town and lived in Baba Shah Wilayat Colony.

A duty officer at the police station said personal enmity could be the motive for the murder.

All the senior police officers of the area, including the SHO, DSP, SP and SSP, were on security duty at the American consulate and had no idea about the motive for the murder.

Young man

A young man was shot dead in Shah Faisal Colony on Monday morning.

Police said the killing took place at the Colony Gate near Fort Sultan Building, where Farhan Siddiqui, 32, was riding his motorcycle to work when two suspects strode to him, shot him and fled.

The police shifted the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

Quoting the victim’s brother, police said Farhan had no political affiliation or personal enmity.

However, the police said the victim used to hang out with an activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and that could be a probable motive for his murder.

He was married and an employee of a cellular phone company.

Killed in Lyari

A man was shot dead allegedly by a Lyari gangster at Niazi Chowk within the remit of the Kalri police station on Monday.

Police said the murder took place during an altercation and Hafeez Jaath shot Janan Khan, 40. The victim died before he could be taken to hospital.

The police reached the scene and took the suspect into custody and seized a pistol from him.

Kalri police station SHO Chand Khan Niazi said the suspect was an active member of Lyari gangs and was said to be close to Fahim Niazi, a known gangster.

Both the victim and the suspect were resident of Daryabad Road and for the past few days a dispute was brewing between the two, the SHO said.

The victim was an employee of the fisheries, the police said.

Road accident

A man was killed in a road accident in Bahadurabad on Monday.

Police said Tanveer Ahmed Khan, 53, was riding his motorcycle when a speeding car knocked him down.

The victim was taken to the JPMC, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The police said the victim was a resident of the PECHS and father of three.

They detained the driver and impounded the car.

The victim was a brother of Prof Tauseef Ahmed Khan.
