ISLAMABAD, Sept 13: The authorities on Thursday blocked access to an anti-Islam video clip as security measures were beefed up around US diplomatic missions, following attacks on American consulates and embassies in Libya, Egypt and Yemen.

“We have beefed up the security for possible threats to the US embassy,” Khurram Rasheed, a senior police official responsible for diplomats’ security in Islamabad, said.

“We expect some protests against the embassy tomorrow (Friday) and we are preparing to handle that,” he said.—AFP

Jamal Shahid adds: After receiving numerous complaints, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) blocked the video clip placed on the World Wide Web through the YouTube website.

According to a PTA official, the film, ‘Innocence of Muslims’, was blocked because it had angered Muslims.

The official said the authority was in close liaison with all the service providers for immediate blocking of the provocative video being uploaded with changed internet protocol from abroad.

The PTA also asked the people to inform it in case the video was available for viewing through any ISP or mobile operator in the country.

Interior Minister A. Rehman Malik said the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority had been asked to ban the movie trailer.
