Silent views on Myanmar violence

The violence in western Myanmar started from the brutal raping and killing of a Rakhine (formerly known as Arakan) woman by three Muslims, the fact that two of them are reportedly Rohingyas is still a headliner in mainstream media.

The riot occurred in some areas in the Rakhine state, near the border towns of Myanmar and Bangladesh, where most of the population is Rohingya. Despite the riot, other states and divisions throughout the country where a number of Muslims live remained peaceful, proving that the clash was communal-based. Some mainstream media, however, manipulated the news as a religious clash between Muslims and Buddhists in Myanmar.

Since the violence broke out, a number of people from both sides have been severely victimised. Seven weeks after the riot, the local people still suffer from a lack of security despite the presence of government armed forces. To add to the miseries, certain news agencies and extremists further worsened the situation. Local Rakhines, Hindus and some Muslims who were not involved in the riot are now also in need of government armed forces for state security.

The media spread the news that armed forces were cruelly treating the Rohingya, whereas government authorities were detaining people suspected for committing criminal activities such as burning down buildings and being a threat to the public.

The complexity of the situation and limited information from the Myanmar government has left the rest of the world confused. There is no solid definition for the term Rohingya; while Myanmar claims that they are the descendents of Bengalis, Bangladesh claims that they are the citizens of Myanmar. From the pages of history, at some point the authorities of Myanmar seemed to have recognised the Rohingya as people of Myanmar but the Myanmar public now believes that it was due to a corrupt immigration system.

These stateless Rohingyas must be helped with respect to human rights, yet the international community should not ignore the Rakhine people. While thousands of Rakhine people became homeless, they continued to be labeled as racists where none of them started the riot. In addition, even at emergency camps where they take refuge, discrimination on providing adequate aid to victims of the riot reportedly occurs.

International NGOs such as UNHCR who have been supporting the Rohingyas for decades is not paying enough attention to the local Rakhine ethnics. Some monks and monasteries which were the victims of the riot, as a response, denied receiving supports from INGOs.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the world democracy icon, mentioned that the whole issue has to be solved with effective rule of law to both border areas and the corrupted Myanmar immigration. The president of Myanmar who is known as a reformist, U Thein Sein, expressed his concern for the stateless illegal immigrants suggesting that UNHCR operate a sheltered camp for them or for them to be absorbed by another state. The UNHCR immediately rejected the proposal, contrasting their concern for the Rohingya people.

Although the world is pushing Myanmar to accept all the Rohingyas as “citizens” of Myanmar, contradictorily, Muslims around the world are protesting against the Myanmar people and its government. People are stepping on the Myanmar flag, some have burnt photographs of the president, and others have announced that they would organise a jihad against Myanmar. Iran forced the United Nations to send UN peacekeeping troops to Myanmar while the Organisation of the Islamic Corporation condemned the government for accepting all Rohingya people as Myanmar citizens.

Furthermore, some extremist pro-Rohingyas propagated misleading facts about Rohingya by manipulating photos of Chinese monks from earthquakes, dead bodies from cyclones and arresting Muslims in Thailand, and portraying them as Myanmar monks and Rakhine people brutally attacking the Rohingya. Some are even screaming that there is a genocide taking place without even knowing the facts of the situation. Such one-sided force will not assist in solving the current violence but only perpetuate racial hatred.

Some of the Bengali residents who are eligible to be granted citizenship should doubtlessly be granted it, as the Myanmar government and leading politicians have clearly stated so. However, for some of the armed illegal immigrants, Bangladesh has to be responsible and the Myanmar public believes that both countries should organise an efficient dialogue to resolve these immigration issues. Moreover, all prevailing countries should consider supporting the stateless Rohingya people to be absorbed by first-world countries, just like some of the refugees have been given the opportunity to apply for asylum.

bring in neutral bodies like UN, or Human Rights to report the situation in depth (like Gaza in the past) & also suggest political solution to the problem;
HRK Jul 27, 2012 01:39pm
And how does that justify the killing of tens of thousands of Rohingyas?
snow Jul 27, 2012 01:36pm
Author writes true story. 100% correct.
Abdullah Hussain Jul 27, 2012 01:49pm
It is a matter of extreme shame & disgrace that innocent Rohingyas Muslims are being killed in mass scale. It is more shame & disgrace for the tall talking OIC members keeping mum. Now when the Muslims are being killed no human right group or the crocodile tear shedding west are saying a word. This is double standard. When a group of do or die peoples takes birth to protect the live & properties of their loved ones then they will be branded as Myanmar Talibans.
lawkanat Jul 27, 2012 10:05am
Rohingyas are not good citizens in Burma, because of their crimes rape, killing and burn down houses, since in the history, that is why the Burmese govt have the right to reject to give them citizenship. After 20 years their population might increase from 8 hundred thousand to 8 millions,at that time there will be more blood shed in the country, because of their crimes history even their Bangladesh govt doesn't want to accept them. They must act like a human beings ,then the Human right will protect them.

this is not a religious conflict . this is just a conflict between the illegal immigrants and local ethnicity. We against ROHINGYAS for ethnicity even if they are BUDDHISTS .
Reddy Jul 28, 2012 12:19pm
why is that there is a problem with only Muslim people in every country whether they are majority or minority. exception maybe Indonesia.
Latif Khan Jul 27, 2012 05:04pm
As we are in internet age. I opened the Wikipedia page for Rohingya people. First paragraph says "According to the UN, they are one of the most persecuted minorities in the world". It also says that their history in the region dates back to 1430 since the Kingdom of Mrauk U.
mushtaq ah malik Jul 28, 2012 09:33am
but the irony is why ms syu ki is silent on the issue. after all foer getting noble prize for peace, she should have spoken about it, secondly from history we know that bhudhists are most peacefull people in the world, then why this voilence had they forget the teachings of lord bhuda
GKK Jul 27, 2012 10:30pm
Really? Why is middle east such a lucrative market for all international companies? Business is business bro... don't immaturely mix it with your religious biases.
camron Jul 28, 2012 09:04am
This writer looks so biased that she is not ready to accept the fact that Muslims minority is simply prosecuted and being forced to leave Myanmar. she should read UN reports and statements of Myanmar government officials.

Why not collect information and then make our final opinion about such serious matters. We should not be trapped by any sort of Extremists specially "Purified" ones.

Can you please explain why Burma government is not allowing international media and human rights organizations to enter effected region? What does Burma government wants to hide?
Lateef Jul 27, 2012 04:08pm
We already have 200,000 Rohingyas in Pakistan, so we can have more. But I think other Muslim countries specially Bangladesh should do more here. if Pakistan can host 3 Million Afghan brothers and sisters then why can't Bangladesh host 800K Muslims.
Lateef Jul 27, 2012 04:09pm
Totally agreed, because they'll loose funding.

Why Pakistan, Bangladesh and Iran that are facing economic hardships? Why not about Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar?
Abhi Asam Jul 27, 2012 01:13pm
Many International NGOs such as UNHCR, Action Aid and World Vision are accessing the area. Why not ask them video and photo evidence of genocide. All I see is fake photos spreading between Muslim communities.

Strange how Muslims feel outraged when their community is targeted. Where was this concern when Pandits were being ethnically cleansed from the Kashmir Valley?
William Jul 27, 2012 01:11pm
Which country can accept the Rohingyas? Because Myanmar country is a poor country so can't support to them. That's why, Which country support to them? If your country support to them, can take them....
Dennise Jul 27, 2012 11:06am
Muslims will cause problems anywhere they go. Either driving away natives or asking their own states, Sri Lanka, Chechnya, Southern Thailand, Northern Rakhine, Assam and so much more.
KhanChangezKhan Jul 28, 2012 10:26am
Whom do we expect to stop killings? The whole world countries are busy for their own self-defense.

Ahmad Jul 27, 2012 12:04pm
Is this is the solution to any matter that u or me if affected should be migrated to any other place where they will start their life afresh? Its impractical and non-sense! The Govt should protect the life of its people if not, then that Govt should be slammed harsh by any means, and the best one is to have new democratic change or give voice to the depressed ppl! Many thanks for your ... ridicules solution!
noor muhammad Jul 27, 2012 12:44pm
The author given wrong information as in massacre killings, Burmese Government is involved which evidence is that Pakistan's Human right activist and help provider to international tragedy effected people like somalia pirates : Mr Ansar Burney was refused to issue visa by Myanmar Embassy in Pakista who was intendting to check how he can help those effected people. He is well know internationally. This shows Myanmar did wrong and want to hide before Muslims human rights activitsts. I appeal whole world human rights activists to pls raise agetation against BUDHIST RELIGION PHOBIA ,MENIAC ARMY JUNTA who are more criminals than Basharat Asad of Syria after whom, American leaders crying round the clock. They are calm becz they are anti-muslims and killed more than 100,000 people in Iraq,Afghanistan, Pakistan,Somalia,Yemen and still drone attacks carry on more killings becz white people and Hindus are fearing of Muslims becz their system of life failed and they are afraid of domination of muslims through their natural system of lif attracted by thousands, millions and more more.
R J Jul 27, 2012 12:06pm
This is an international policy of divide and rule like that of 1947 roits b/w India & Pak to saperate muslims from everybody or kill them. Why only there are muslims in every part of the world who are killed or anything else on the base of their religion.
Inspector Jul 27, 2012 12:13pm
no where in the history communities are transfered or shared between countries. i think pakistani army along with other muslim powers should take military action against burma. And should divide the burma into villages ruled by these mulims states....down with every hater of humanity and Islam...
Peace Lover Jul 27, 2012 12:15pm
If there is no genocide then why the Mayanmar government has rejected to issue visa to Ansar Barni who a human right activist and who wanted to go there to find facts. It means the government is trying to hide something from the world????
KhanChangezKhan Jul 28, 2012 10:09am
This is not the real solution. Why should Pakistan to be involved in this matter. This is the purely matter Between of Burma and Bangladesh. Pakistan has already uploaded by other nationals’ refugees of Afghanistan as well as intruders of India, Bangladesh, Sri Lankans and other nationals. The population of Pakistan in 1971 was less than Bangladesh of about 50,000,000 that now increased to the level of about 180,000,000 whereas the Bangladeshis were of 70,000,000 in 1971 and presently about 170,000,000. The ration of growth is more in Pakistan comparing to the Bangladesh. This is because non-Pakistani sheltered in Pakistan. We must have to stop the foreign floods of people in our country and find an immediate solution to the matter having sending back the non-Pakistani people to their own countries.
SAROJ Jul 28, 2012 06:28pm
It was very saddening to know about the plight of Burmese Muslims. We so often talk about Muslim Umma and no boundaries among Muslim countries . These are 8 lakhs Rohingyas muslims. There are 58 Muslim Nations. If Muslim countries accept these helpless people, it is very small number each Muslim country will be burdened with. In my view life is more important than citizenship. Citizenship issue can also be solved by pressing Muslim countries to amend their rules and grant these unfortunate people citizenship papers. This may not be a problem if intention is to solve the issue. Muslim nations will surely not be interested to create more Hammas & Hijbullahs. We must solve the problem and let people settle down. Can you believe India accepted 30 million Muslims from Bangladesh +200 million Muslims who opted to stay after partition ? Muslims in India enjoy enormous political, social , economic and religious powers. We Hindus also take pride that all Muslims can celebrate their faith openly and without any fear. If you happen to visit India you will find a Mosque everywhere ,be it in the centre of prime road or government offices. I see people of all religions paying respects. Regards
lawkanat Jul 27, 2012 08:54am
There are 800,000 Rohingyas in Burma, If Pakistan &Bangladesh can take 400,000 each, that will be good for every body.
Cyrus Howell Jul 27, 2012 08:54am
"Amnesty International is calling on Myanmar’s Parliament to amend or repeal the 1982 Citizenship Law to ensure that Rohingyas are no longer stateless. “Under international human rights law and standards, no one may be left or rendered stateless. For too long Myanmar’s human rights record has been marred by the continued denial of citizenship for Rohingyas and a host of discriminatory practices against them.” For decades in fact.
sadstory Jul 27, 2012 04:07pm
and why exactly should the world take these people in??? why cant Myanmar step up and take care of them?? may be if they were not so oppressed both the people would be much happier there wouldnt be such tensions to begin with...

Azmat Gaad Jul 27, 2012 12:31pm
I think it appears that the article is based on true facts and since the beginning of this crisis its the first time i came to know the picture. Suffering is bad for both sodes of the people

A biased article serving nothing but adding insult to injuries of the Rohingya Muslims

Why should they leave their homes. Perhaps the Burmese should take more responsibility and infact stop perpetrating murder.

Being a graduate from NUS doesn't guarantee an author's credibility. It might speak of her credentials but cannot prove that she has access to valid information. Such a shame that MSN is allowing such bias nationalist if not ethnic views to be presented. Its not about Buddhists or Muslims, its about the bloodshed that is reminding us of barbaric times of Tartars and Mongols. Peace and tolerance is missing and Government of Burma should take immediate actions to curb this.
Zafar Abbas Jul 27, 2012 01:57pm
first of all the raping incident is very unfortunate and and the perpetrators should have been brought to justice, but on the meanwhile a single incident can not be made into justification of a genocide.
sorry Jul 27, 2012 10:20am
Bias views , Didn't mention about ten muslim travellers massacred by three hundred local people in Rakhine.. Facts are facts truth are truth. If you hide some facts and not write in a fair manner the article will just be another propaganda..

Bnagladeshi Muslims in Mynmar or Assam, it is same story everywhere!! Prove me wrong, I am happy to accept. Why there are trouble in every part of the world where muslim lives??? Take British muslims, US, Chechinya, Xinjiang of China, Mynmar, India - Gujarat- Assam, Spain, France or any other part..Please explain this...
Jaffna Jul 28, 2012 11:01am
Sri Lankan Hindus will disagree with you. Jul 28, 2012 10:33am
this is not true... they will approve whatever fits to western agenda
KhanChangezKhan Jul 28, 2012 10:18am
Muslim killing Muslims is not the real fact; in the shade of Muslim, the non-Muslims are killing Muslims. A Muslim never kills a Muslim or blast a bomb in a mosque. These are the act of non-Muslims behind the shade of Muslim. If any Muslim kills a Muslim in the mosque cannot he be claimed a Muslim.
Aahad Jul 29, 2012 12:19pm
That rape case is nit true it was done by buddhist and they blamed on muslim rohingyasaa
Belzer Jul 30, 2012 03:24pm
So the UN is making it up?
Ananth Jul 30, 2012 03:23pm
They did not become peaceful by choice. The were beaten and decimated into submission by the Hindus.
Farhan Jul 30, 2012 02:24pm
Its not the solution of the problem to pressurizing other muslim countries to grant citizenship to Burmian Muslim. if Burma is not ready to accept these people than why other country will accept??? if you feel heat from your natives, would you like to left your own motherland???????? the solution must be as no ones right's of living be deprived.
indian Aug 02, 2012 10:31am
if they are less in number that doesn't mean they can rape innocent women or is this islam teaches us
Cyrus Howell Jul 27, 2012 08:48am
Pretty much an apologist for the Myanmar government. Rohingyas are the victims of genocide and are not only being murdered in Myanmar and Bangladesh but being tortured as well. The Rohingya people were there before Myanmar and Bangladesh were independent countries. Little miss rich girl has a bias here. Perhaps her father is a general. She is no doubt a Young Republican.
mgmgu Jul 27, 2012 12:57pm
not necessary..
Haroon Jul 27, 2012 08:42am
absurd. If but, if but, if but, then if but... Your country is a Buddhist version of an extremist Afghanistan. You even exercise population control and forced control on the Rohingya, as if the Rohingya are sub human. History will not forget you. We want nothing to do with your country and it would be great if all OIC countries shut down shut diplomatic relations with Burma until you decide your state is going to exercise basic consideration for human rights.
Omer Jul 27, 2012 09:58am
Perfect!!! then we can a repeat of Afghan migration into Pakistan during the 90's. Try to solve the problem and not run away from it. May Allah help those poor souls
Freya Jul 27, 2012 09:57am
And Muslims are always victimized? They never do anything wrong?? that's what you mean?
Zufah Jul 27, 2012 08:25am
thank you for doing this piece. I hope people can learn and understand the difference.
CM1 Jul 29, 2012 09:15am
Maybe the author has tried to write a balanced article, but I think she - like the rest of the world - is writing from a lack of real information on the situation. There are very few people, especially outside of the country, who could claim to have a good grasp of the current facts on the ground. It does appear though that the Govt of Myanmar is pursuing a policy of separation, rather than integration, and that the Rohingya people are being forced to live in camps, either by their own fear of leaving or by the state authorities. Sadly the UN mission is also compromised by a lack of impartiality and are downplaying the health situation of those people confined in camps which is dire and a serious concern; already there are many who have died of malnutrition and dehydration.
Jaf Bakk Jul 27, 2012 08:43am
Please let US - Hilary Cliton interfier in this and help poor people.
manjee_chat Jul 29, 2012 07:02am
INdonesia? I think the majority religion ppl there set a church on fire there recently.
CM1 Jul 29, 2012 09:16am
...The situation has been grave for many decades, and when the recent fighting broke out in a tinderbox environment, it only serves to highlights one of the world's forgotten conflicts for a short period. Responsibility rests not only with the Government of Myanmar to turn away from its policy of segregation and to promote full integration (remember this is a country which still uses the practice of family lists and state authorised marriage as a norm) if it wants to be true to its new image of reform, as well as with its own people who need to find a peaceful solution to living together and resist the temptation to dwell longer in a culture of blame and fear as their long campaign for recognition of human rights seems closer to fruition.
Fact Jul 27, 2012 08:56am
I can't believe I just read this. You make it sound like the the Rohingya are the aggresors and the monks & armed forces are the victims. Why do they not let in any foreign media to the region if everything is just fine like you are trying to paint the situation? That is just straight Myanmar propaganda.
abid raza Jul 27, 2012 08:59am
Human killing for any reason is a crime. Every govrnance is liable to defend the right to live freely and breath in the world. This is the top mos t duty of the Mayanmar Government to safegaurd the life of humans living in his boeders. If they feel that they can not control the massacar due any reason they must seek help from UNO , NATO or neghbouring countries. It is dangrous if some groups starts killing humans due any sectarian reason than NO ONE WILL SURVIVE in longer terms.
Steve Jul 27, 2012 09:05am
This is 100 % true. Thanks for pointing out the truth. These days, there have been too many incorrect, biased and shocking reports with all lies and propaganda making it a religious clash issue, which is totally not true. It is a matter of illegal immigration issue, started by guests ("bengali") harming the host (Arakan people).
JohnnyMyanmar Jul 27, 2012 09:05am
1.There are 33 ethnical group in 60 million population Myanmar and then why Myanmar people are stingy for population of just 800,000 Rohingya? 2.If you can build mathematical model and calculate backward based on current population of 800,000 Rohingya with average family size ratio of 4 you will get their original date of immigration to Myanmar. 3.Moreover you type “rakhine pagoda” in Google and click image button to see what you get Voila !! Ancient Rakhine city with full of old and ruin Buddhist temples dated back to 13 century. (Today is Internet age you can research by your self ) 4.Most of news agencies around the world make matter worse by portraying Rohinga conflict into religious conflict between Buddhism and Muslim and most of writers never been to Myanmar. 5.They are risking life of Myanmar people as well as life of innocent and peaceful Muslim in Myanmar by writing baseless and groundless articles which stir in both communities who coexist peacefully. 6.There are hundreds of mosques and wealthy Muslim in Myanmar. Biggest construction companies in Myanmar are owned by Muslim. Do not take my words and go and check through Internet type “Naing Construction” or “Father Land Construction” you will know the truth behind all media hype.
Amir Jul 27, 2012 09:07am
This has to be the most biased article I've ever read, still can't believe it. Shame on the author for discrediting the opressed Muslims!

This is what you call international media (weapons of mass distraction)...
Sehra Jul 27, 2012 09:19am
Lawkanat, for your kind information, the rohingyas are not animals they are human and they are born in myanmar and they have full right to be citizen, it was your government fault that they didn't give them citzenship, and this is all your government plan they have made a huge drama and they burn both rakhine' people houses and bangali houses and trying to make war between them, you people don't understand about politics.
Haroon Jul 27, 2012 09:19am
The writer is delusional. OPEN THE ARAKAN STATE TO THE INTERNATIONAL MEDIA TO VERIFY YOUR CLAIMS! THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE LANGUAGE OF ADOLF HITLER AND YOUR PRESIDENT! The OIC has called a major international conference at the end of this month for major action on Myanmar's crimes against humanity. It is incumbent for the OIC to push for diplomatic and economic sanctions on Myanmar. OIC must raise a fund to subsidize the cost of shifting these people to Bangladesh. And Bangladesh, your government in Dhaka is always crying tears about the 1971 CIVIL WAR and the atrocities that took place in Dhaka, how about you show some maturity and lend a helping hand to ETHNICALLY THE SAME PEOPLE AS YOU to avoid the genocide they are facing in Myanmar? Even the Dalai Lama is silent on the Rohingya issue, even though he is the spirtual head of all the Buddhist religious organisations in Burma calling for violence on the Rohingya.
lawkanat Jul 27, 2012 09:23am
If Iran,Pakistan &Bangladesh can share 800,000 Rohingyas and take them and resettle them in their countries, that will be good for every body.
Haroon Jul 27, 2012 09:25am
I just did a back ground check on the author. Google her.
Hnin Lay Nge Jul 27, 2012 09:25am
Can you please explain how international media are stating the facts they are now covering without going to Myanmar? How we can trust their claims that Rohingya are getting tortured when the reporters are not there?
Haroon Jul 27, 2012 09:30am
Dawn, I like you style! :)
Aizaz Moin Jul 27, 2012 09:30am
This is the Acid test for Pakistan. Can we as a Nation show soldarity with our Muslim brothers or do we only content ourselves with Preaching our version of the faith?? COME ON PAKISTAN, WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT THE SITUATION IN BURMA?
Steve Jul 27, 2012 09:30am
UN Human Rights Envoy is visiting Myanmar end of this month. He will see the truth that this article is the first article that reveals the real truth behind this so called "Rohingya oppressed by Buddist" propaganda, that is being launched in international media these days.
lawkanat Jul 27, 2012 09:33am
If 3 Rohingyas didn't Raped and killed a Rakhine girl, and if 1000 Rohingyas didn't burn down 497 houses of Rakhine people, they will not have to face the bad consequence today.
Bamar Jul 27, 2012 09:42am
The article is well written base on the true facts. Fairly judged and those who want to claim war under the cover name of so called Rohingyas in Burma should be ashamed to learn something from this article. Why are they all aggressive and never consider twice.

Habib Siddiqui Jul 27, 2012 06:15pm
Ms Khine's views here are not silent views of a reluctant observer but of a highly biased Rakhine Magh who has not grown up to understand that ethnic cleansing of anyone is unacceptable in our world, esp. in the 21st century. She does not tell about the lynching death of 10 Burmese Muslims who were not from the Rohingya race or ethnicity when they were returning from their trip to Arakan. Why were they killed, if not for sure bigotry and racism?
Tin Win Jul 27, 2012 06:34pm
We have confirm reports that the Rakhine girl was not murdered by Muslims as we have good contact with the mother of the girl. It is only pre-planned propaganda spread in the media to defame Muslims. If it is the case why not Rakhine people ask for justice and instead why they killed 10 innocent Muslims.

Brother, Pakistan should take care of itself first before it pokes it's nose into another country's affair. Pakistan should take care of its own minorities before they get vanished forever! Pakistan has started cleansing its minorities since 1947. Please do not be naive!
usama Jul 27, 2012 06:43pm
oh come on you cant blame a race for the crimes of some of their people!!!! a race cant be committed to do just rape, killing etc. and depriving them of HUMAN RIGHTS there is no excuse for that!!! BURMA is there country why should BANGLADESH accept them as there citizen??? you are depicting as if Rohingya's are responsible for every death in BURMA.....! all others are angel as if! i salute your pathetic logic!

In my own view to kill someone because he Belongs to another religion is cruel approach. In Pakistan back few year christian community in Gojra city were toutred by locally community But Govt of Pakistan took immediate action and resettle than in new well Build Houses. This Is civilization. Burmies are just doing what Their ancient king do with the Daughter of Hindousatni Fleed Prince. and since calling them Rohingya and not accepting there citizen. This is too much. Be civilized be democartic Long martial Law has almost change your thinking. If Rohingya are criminal what about the babies and very young child killed by your people were they also criminals.
kashif Jul 29, 2012 10:23am
Why u cry when you cannot tell how many thousands or even hundreds of minorities are killed in our backyard???
Junis Jul 27, 2012 07:49pm
Where is the justice for the thousands of innocent Rohingyas who have been beaten and killed?
Junis Jul 27, 2012 07:50pm
Muslims do not cause problem for anyone. The problem with us is that we are weak. If Muslims around the world were not weak, no one would be attacking them.
Jerry Jul 27, 2012 08:10pm
This article tells the true story. Trust me if you live in Rakhine state you will deeply feel sorry for the Rakhine local people there still being afraid of being attacked by some militant Rohingya, even today.
Mynmr Jul 27, 2012 08:10pm
Oh.. So now you talk of International laws and completely forgot Sharia. Why dont you check Sharia and tell the world what to do ??
ffdfdyfd Jul 27, 2012 08:22pm
Yes, we can see who is afraid of who?? And we can see who is running around the world begging for help.
Saad Jul 27, 2012 08:35pm
Good question!!
khan Jul 27, 2012 11:22pm
lol... law of humanity.. you cant support killings any where in the world.:s
mmymasood Jul 27, 2012 09:00pm
Despite of all the facts and discussion, its good for the humanity that Burma government should take a step and control the killing of people. Doesn't matter the killed man is Muslim or not, but that's a human. Islam never say to kill even a non -Muslim, therefore, we should avoid the strict talk about the religion and we should support and force the Burma Government to settle the situation. If any Muslim make a mistake, the government should punish him, but this right is only for the government. Those peoples are the citizens of that country and they should accept this reality. To migrate in any other country is not a solution, i pray for the innocent persons there and every body should also pray for them.
salman Jul 27, 2012 09:33pm
Moreover, all prevailing countries should consider supporting the stateless Rohingya people to be absorbed by first-world countries, just like some of the refugees have been given the opportunity to apply for asylum." SINGAPORE should take the lead . lets walk the talk Ms. Khine
A Burmese Citizen Jul 28, 2012 05:33am
if the immigrants are raping citizens and starting riots, i think making it into ' justification of a genocide' is what anyone would do.

Hlaing Win Jul 29, 2012 10:08am
For your information, there never was a genocide, contrary to pro-Muslim media. Wake up and learn the facts.
Virkau Jul 28, 2012 04:17am
Pakistan army would be better utilized fighting TTP at home. Army styled actions don't work in such matters.
virkau Jul 28, 2012 04:20am
What happened to Bihari Muslims disowned by both Pakistan and Bangla Desh after 1971 war?
MKB Jul 28, 2012 04:32am
Good idea, already many Rohingyas are working in Saudi Arabia with Bangladeshi or Pakistani Passport.
Prasad Jul 28, 2012 04:36am
Pakistanis talk of protecting minorities when muslims in other countries but butcher innocent hindus, christians in their own country. The land of the devils.
MKB Jul 28, 2012 04:44am
laughable, you can not protect your won people, pls. think of how brutally you act on Shia & Ahmedia, not to speak of Hindus & Christian. It has reported that you have showed a conversion of Hindu youth named Sunil to Islam re-name as Abdullah in a TV show.
Adam Jul 28, 2012 04:49am
let me elaborate that what is meant by failure of western system. No doubt the western system is more advance, developed & modern but there is no denying that it lacks morality, ethics, human rights protection, peace & fairness. America who claims to be the biggest promoter of human rights has blurred the vision of the world; they have killed millions of muslims in Afghanistan, Iraq ,Syria, Palestine, Yemen, Pakistan etc. Well this is just ignored by the UN and all the agencies promoting human rights. This is very shameful that western & european people have become racist & discriminates especially the muslims. Muslims are peacful people, if some individual has committed a wrongdoing, he must be trailed for; but the whole religion should not be victims of their misdeed.
Quietsoul Jul 28, 2012 08:12am
Suffering is like a plauge, once started it will devour any human it gets its hands on. regardless of cast color or religion. Think like human, one human is killing other human who cares about the label he/she wearing on their black heart. Just imagine your self standing on the place invisiabley while the killings were going on. We are sitting here behind our computers talking so easily about suffering hate and injustice. think about those who were part of such horrific incidents just once. You will understand talking about it so easy, where going throught is llike a nightmare from hell.
MKB Jul 28, 2012 04:55am
Did Pakistan ever allowed international community to see how its treats Shias, Ahmedia, Hindus and Chirstian. Burma Govt. is nothing to hide, it is tere internal matter. So no intevention.
MKB Jul 28, 2012 04:57am
Make your own house in order. donot pip in others house.
Sammy Jul 28, 2012 05:03am
Firstly it should be confirmed whether this rape story is true or just a false accusation to get rid of the Rohingya. Secondly if it is true, the culprits must be trailed in court of law, and most importantly all the muslims in Burma should not be made victim of the act of few individuals.
Sam Jul 28, 2012 05:06am
The Day Benazir Bhutto was mudered Karachi has seen worst VIOLANCE......Burmese looted the factories, grain trucks, banks..etc in Landi/ Korangi Industrial area along with other natioalites. I was always puzzled why Burmese were involved in looting....?
budha Jul 28, 2012 05:22am
bro..what about muslims killing muslims..?b
A Burmese Citizen Jul 28, 2012 05:24am
I wish that too, Shahid. no matter which religion people believe in, if they really follow it instead of just using it, things will be much better.
praveen Jul 28, 2012 05:40am
@to all ummah, Dont dare to dream of attacking burma. Burma , as a bhuddist country has China 's support. For the fact ,China, is not psuedo secular democratic country, Its ultra nationlistic . If they will , they can make enitre OIC (ie umma), into China's Specical Adminitstrative Zone (CSAZ) with in a decade. Enire ummas's population 1.5 billion and chinese people are 1.2billions. But keep in mind that out of 1.5 billion 1. 4 bilion are towelheads. he he
RUA Jul 28, 2012 05:33am
Well my dear friend dont let the hatred inside you go astray. Islam is a religion of peace, u should research on it , it will make your life righteous & it's a gateway to heaven. Don't judge me, Look into your own faith & decide what is right. Muslims are degraded & marked terrorist for no reasons. and USA who have killed millions of muslims in IRAQ, Palestine & Afghanistan considers them promoter of human rights. Their drone strikes in various muslim states kills 100 daily. Still muslims are terrorist and America is the peace keeper. So shameful of the world.
A Burmese Citizen Jul 28, 2012 05:40am
because they are not Myanmar nationals. countries don't take care of people from other countries. As it is Myanmar government can not even take care of its own people.
muhammad Naeem Jul 28, 2012 05:42am
for your kind information rakhine formerly arakan was a seperate free muslim state since 1438.and british government invaded this country 1787. at this time muslim papulation were 35000.when it got independance from british government 1948 these rohingia muslim,s citizenship were 1962 general nay wen deprived them from citizenship, till then they living statelees and most persucated minorities in the world.

MKB Jul 28, 2012 05:49am
You are living in fools paradise. Nobody affaried of Muslims or Islam. Pls. retrpspects. All communities are prograssing and only Muslims & Islaming countries are crraying for religion. Why do not you say anything against China, who routinely massacering Ughar Muslims.
Sean Jul 28, 2012 05:50am
Firstly Muslims don't need to ask for help if US donot kills millions of muslims in Afghanistan , Iraq, Palestine & drone strikes in Pakistan ,Syria, Yemen etc.
MKB Jul 28, 2012 05:54am
Where are your OIC, when China is killing your half brother Ugarh Muslims. Pls. do not live in dream.
Ahmed Jumma Jul 28, 2012 05:56am
Dear Dennise, Muslims are not problems, you see America attacked on Iraq, Afghanistan, drone attackes everyday in Pakistan, plotting conspiracies against Muslim countries, i.e. Egypt, Syria, Iran, Palestine and other Muslim countries. Why because they are Muslim countries. First to know Islam then to talk. Are you ready to recite holy Qur'an for your knowledge of Islam, are want to remain fanatic and prejudiced?
Mohandas Jul 28, 2012 06:15am
dear friend what are your views on the wide scale murders, brutalization, rape & torturing of muslims in Kashmir by the hands of hindus. Is that fair? First look into your actions then accuse others. All the minorities in Pakistan are previliged n protected.
Phyuphyuwin Jul 28, 2012 07:42am
The whole truth is that myanmar government is playing game. They burned both buddhist and bengali houses and they are making war between them .
Aldo Jul 28, 2012 06:09am
So, what you are suggesting is that religious and ethnic diversity should not be a national virtue and a goal to be pursued. Will you accept all the Muslim brothers (and sisters) who live in India, for example, in exchange for all Christian. Hindu, and Sikh minorities who live in Pakistan? I think your solution to the Rohingyas situation in Myanamar is taking the easy way out and will not work. Instead why don't the world's trading nations (including China) who trade with Myanamar put pressure on them to resolve this issue peacefully?
Michelle Jul 28, 2012 06:11am
and on the other hand America, NATO & other western countries will attack, kill & massacre Muslims in their homelands like Palestine, Kashmir, Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen, pakistan & Iraq. Real terrorist kills muslims in their homeland just for the minerals, oil or other natural resource in their countries. Fair Enough!! Dennise.
Shindler Jul 28, 2012 06:19am
Sir all your accusation are mere stories, not backed with facts or truth. The facts is that muslims are murdered & brutalized in every corner in every state of the world. crime raping killing & murders of muslims in Iraq & afghanistan is known to all, but no one has the guts or feelings for the oppressed muslims by the westerns NATO & US.
True Justice Jul 28, 2012 06:22am

Geneiveve Jul 28, 2012 08:01pm
I have checked out the unedited facts of the sad situation. The article here is not true representation of fact. Muslims there are being tortured, burnt, killed with extreme prejudice, hate, and bigotry. Their lives are in duress. They are in terrifying condition of destitution and death. Taliban volunteers are considering the difficult ordeal of trekking there and defending the helpless Muslim refugees with their own lives.
Nariska Jul 28, 2012 08:13pm
Very well said. Right from the heart. US and its Shadow NATO have declared war on Islam and Muslim Civilization, bombing it into rubble of the stone age.
Zuha`a Jul 28, 2012 08:21pm
Because the word has not got to them yet. When they get there they wil find out for themselves that the image Hollywood projects is not the real America. If they ever get there a big sad surprise is awating for them.
Janilee Jul 28, 2012 08:23pm
She is doing it on set purpose. A part of the campaign to maligne Muslims in everyway possible.
Taraa Jul 28, 2012 08:27pm
The Taliban volunteers are already considering how to get their weapons across the difficult long distance. They are not waiting for joint meetings, the Palestinians unfortunately are.

There is US financing involved in this upheaval after the Hillary Clinton visit and pact signing with Myanmar.

Ever heard of Social Media? Some messages and pictures are getting through that way.
Cathy Jul 28, 2012 08:43pm
"What does Burma government wants to hide?" ...the ethnic cleansing and genocide that is taking place. They will tidy up after the 'job' is done, and call in the media for show and tell.
Ashley Jul 28, 2012 08:45pm
This the 21st Century. News can get out without the official media being there.
Geneiveve Jul 28, 2012 08:50pm
The US is striking there. Who do you think is the prime mover? Those people lived in peace with each other before Hillary went there.
Avtar Jul 29, 2012 02:36pm
Ask Muslims. Look at Pakistan, Middle East, and so on for sectarian and other killings.
Bruce Jul 28, 2012 09:03pm
In the original report this was not so. The rape story was added on later, to justify the general genocide govermental order.
Chen Wuee Jul 28, 2012 09:05pm
They have been sons of the soil for over six centuries.
Damian Jul 28, 2012 09:12pm
On the contrary they have American support, after Hillary Clinton's recent visit and pact signing. Myanmar is being bolstered up financially and militarily by the US as part of an effort to surround, circle and contain China.
Ginaa Jul 28, 2012 09:31pm
Essentially false. You can't be serious.
Baaz Jul 28, 2012 09:41pm
Sharia Law would require all able bodied Muslims around the world to march on Myanmar with their lives, wealth, valor, intellect, power, and ability: Restore order, justice, freedom, and fair play in that land. Well you asked. Now you know.
Amit-Atlanta-USA Jul 28, 2012 09:44pm
Americans and Europeans are at increasingly frustrated why should it be their responsibility to absorb all these Muslims who can never be integrated into these societies. Increasingly Americans & Europeans are asking why can't the rich MErn and N.African countruies as well as other predominantly Muslim nations such as Malayisia, Indonesia, Turkey, Central Asian nations accept their co-religionists. Not only does immigration of these people bode well for the west, it will also prevent untoward backlashes that's already brewing all over Europe (Norway, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, UK) and the US with these poor Muslims at the recieving end.
Julilia Jul 28, 2012 09:46pm
That story is not true. Even if it was, how many rapes, murder, killing and loot of innocent Muslims who had nothing to do with it will compensate for it. How much collective punishment and general genocide would be payment enough?
Isom Jul 28, 2012 09:47pm
Good idea. Agree with the concept.
Lanu Lee Jul 28, 2012 09:52pm
Researching this article I found that it is fallacious, purposely so.
Reid Jul 28, 2012 09:54pm
Actually it amounts to an admission of guilt.
Aahad Jul 29, 2012 12:00am

Zaw Aug 06, 2012 03:23am
You muslims are always like that. You will shout others for human rights, regilious rights and blur blur!!! Let me ask you a question, how many buddists/christians in your muslim countries? How many churches, temples and pagodas in muslim countries? Did you conserve even ancient budda statues? or Did you destroyed? None of muslim country didn't accept other religious to be developed in their country. But they are talking about religious right. Shame on you!! To me it is so funny. Taliban are warmly welcome from Myanmar. You will know who myanmar are. Come on!! Myanmar, buddists are naturally peaceful people however they all are ready to sacrifice their lives fo prevent their country and their religion.
