LAHORE, June 30: Two robbers shot dead a motorcyclist near Adda Chabeel locality of Manawan early on Saturday.

The police said that Ghulam Murtaza of Salamatpura, Baghbanpura, was riding a motorcycle when the robbers stopped him and tried to snatch cash and valuables from him. As Murtaza, a father of 12, offered resistance, the suspects fired at him and fled with looted cash and the motorcycle.

The victim, who ran a goods transport business, was later pronounced dead at a hospital. Police shifted the body for an autopsy and registered a case.

Three robbers gunned down the security guard of Shaukat Khanum Collection Centre situated on Allama Iqbal Road in Garhi Shahu police limits.

Police said three robbers entered the centre and tried to loot cash and valuables from staff at gunpoint.

Security guard Muhammad Manzoor challenged the suspects and opened fire. The suspects returned the fire and killed Manzoor. They fled empty-handed.

KILLED: An alleged robber was killed in a suspected police encounter near Jamia Asharfia in Ichhra police station limits early on Saturday.

The suspect, Ali Raza of Samanabad, had killed constable Ali Hasan during a crossfire on Pir Ghazi Road, Ichhra.

The police claimed that two armed men snatched a motorcycle from Naeem Bhatti close to Jamia Ashrafia around 2am and fled.

The victim alerted the emergency police. Some Mohafiz Force constables, who were on patrol duty in the area, tried to stop the suspects near the canal.

A shootout with police left suspect Ali Raza injured seriously while his accomplice managed to escape leaving the bike behind.

The injured robber was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The police seized a weapon and five cell phones from the victim and shifted his body to a morgue. The police are looking into the matter.
