LAHORE, May 10: Robbers took away cash and gold ornaments worth Rs60 million from a jewellery shop in Allama Iqbal Town’s Karim Block market on Thursday.

Rana Tanvir told the Gulshan Iqbal police four robbers in the guise of customers entered his shop and asked the price of a gold ring. The next moment, he said, they started looting jewellery and shot at and injured his cousin Yasir on resistance.

The gangsters fled with cash and jewellery worth Rs60 million. The injured was admitted to Shaikh Zayed Hospital.

A police official said the watchman was not present at the shop at the time of the robbery and his weapon was also found inside the shop. He said though the police had received an application claiming Rs60 million loss, it was still being verified.

Scores of traders in the market later protested the robbery.

In another incident, thieves stole $200, a laptop and two cell-phone sets from a car at Gulberg’s Mini Market.

ACCIDENT: A woman was killed and two men were injured in a collision between a truck and a motorcycle on Raiwind Road near Thokar Niaz Beg on Thursday.

Rescue 1122 said a truck hit a motorcycle as a result of which two men and a woman were injured. The injured were taken to Jinnah Hospital where the woman, not yet identified, succumbed to her wounds.

A motorcyclist succumbed to his wounds in hospital on Thursday – a few days after a vehicle hit him at Ghaziabad’s main bazaar. The police said Amir was a resident of Tajpura.

MURDERED: A man in his 40s was found dead near Takkipur village of Batapur on Thursday.

The police claimed that they responded to an emergency call and shifted the body for autopsy.
