KARACHI, May 7: The director general of parks and horticulture department and his 11 subordinates of the Karachi Municipal Corporation were given on Monday protective bail by the Sindh High Court in a case pertaining to causing colossal losses to the national exchequer in the project of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Park in Clifton.

DG Liaquat Ali Qaimkhani, Abdur Rahseed, Amir Bukhsh, Musheer Ahmed, Rao Mohammed Amjad, Irfanullah Ahmed Khan, Raheel Khan, Mohammed Iftikharullah Khan, Khwaja Arif Nadeem, Mohammed Shamim and Shahid Hussain were given protective bail for 15 days in the sum of Rs100,000 each by Justice Faisal Arab.

The KMC officials, represented by Advocate Farogh Naseem, were booked by the anti-corruption establishment (ACE) on corruption charges in a case (FIR No 9/2012) under Sections 217 (public servant disobeying direction of law with intent to save persons from punishment or property from forfeiture), 218 (public servant framing incorrect record or writing with intent to save person from punishment or property from forfeiture), 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document) and 34 (with common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act II.

The counsel for the applicants contended that his clients were booked in a criminal case by the ACE to harass and blackmail them.
