PESHAWAR, Dec 9: Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan has placed two judicial officers under suspension after receiving various public complaints of irregularities against them.

The additional district and sessions judge of Lahor (Swabi district), Sajjad Anwer, was transferred to Bannu district with immediate effect and suspended at the same time.

The chief justice has appointed a judge of the High Court as an authorised officer, who will fulfil other legal requirements including inquiry against the judge.

It was learnt that the High Court had received numerous complaints against Mr Anwer.

Similarly, the civil judge-cum-judicial magistrate of Tank, Adil Ali Afridi, has also been suspended on the same charges. Another judge of the High Court has been appointed an officer in his case.

After his appointment as the chief justice early this year, Justice Mian Shakirullah has taken various steps to curb irregularities among the judicial officers as well as other staff of the High Court and subordinate judiciary.

On various occasions, he visited courts in far flung area to check punctuality of judges, and in some cases, he even suspended the district and sessions judges concerned on complaints.

Last month, the chief justice had issued special directives asking general public to inform the High Court about genuine complaints against any of the subordinate judicial officers involved in any sort of professional misconduct.
