Enmity claims life

SWABI, April 3:  An old enmity between two families of Yar Hussain region claimed life of a youngster on Tuesday.

Aurang Zeb, brother of the deceased Zamin Khan, 25, reported to the Yar Hussain police that they had an old enmity with the family of Abbas Khan and Abid Khan of Overmal Dheri.

The rival party opened fire on his brother with Kalashnikovs when he was on his way home at Sano Banda, killing him on the spot, said Mr Zeb, adding the two attackers managed to escape.

The police registered an FIR and started investigation. “We have raided the houses of the relatives of the attackers but they succeeded to dodge the police”, said a police official. —Correspondent

Man slits nose of ex-wife

MANSEHRA, April 3: A man slit the nose of his ex-wife with dagger in Shinkiary on Tuesday.

The incident happened in Makria. The man attacked the woman with dagger causing her multiple wounds. Doctors had to stitch the woman’s nose to stop bleeding.

The woman, who was referred to Ayub Medical Complex in Abbottabad because of her critical condition, told reporters at King Abdullah Teaching Hospital the accused had divorced her some two years back when she developed differences.

She said the accused asked her to establish contact with other men to earn money.

The victim, who is mother of four children and eldest of them is a nine year old girl, said the accused used to threaten her on telephone. She appealed to the prime minister for justice.

Police were making efforts to arrest the culprit. —Correspondent

Transporters threaten strike

SWABI, April 3: The district transporters have threatened to observe a wheel-jam strike for indefinite period till decision of the hike in the prices of petroleum products and CNG was not reversed.

Fazal Anwar, provincial president of Goods Transport Union and Waqif Khan, president of Passenger Coach Transporters Association, criticised both the government and opposition for humiliating the masses. They said there was complete unity among transporters associations on the matter.

Replying a question about the minor decrease in the prices by the government, the transporters declared that lollipop was not acceptable to them.

While the perks and privileges of the rulers increased manifold every year, the poor people were bearing the brunt of rulers’ extravagance, they regretted. —Correspondent

School for Bannu village

PESHAWAR, April 3: The government will construct a middle school at Adnan Sardikhel area of Bakkakhel.

The approval to this effect was given by Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti on a summary moved by elementary and secondary education department on Tuesday.Mr Hoti also approved posting of staff, including senior English teacher (BS-16), CT teacher (BS-9), Arabic teacher (BS-9), drawing teacher (BS-9), physical education teacher (BS-9), naib qasid and sweeper for the school. —Bureau Report

Tribesmen join PTI

PESHAWAR, April 3: Dozens of tribal elders along with their relatives and supporters have joined PTI.

The tribesmen were led by Malik Daud Khan, who is nephew of former senator Malik Rehman and cousin of MNA Bilal Rehman and Senator Hilala Rehman.

While speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday he said in the prevailing situation Imran Khan was the only hope for the people, as he was raising voice against corruption.

Flanked by other PTI leaders, the tribesman said the successive governments had ignored the people of Fata. He said by increasing the rates of petroleum products, CNG and other items the government had forced the people to come to the streets. —Bureau Report

Traders block road

PESHAWAR, April 3: Reacting to the arrest of three traders in Qissa Khwani the business community downed shutters, burnt tyres on the main road and held a protest demonstration on Tuesday.

A trader Abdul Raziq told media persons the TMO of Town-I Azmat Wazir called three of his colleagues to his office and as they reached there he informed police who arrested them without any reason.

He said the traders had been kept in illegal confinement for three hours. However, the police released the traders later.

An official of the Khan Raziq police station said the traders had been arrested for creating hurdles in the move to remove the encroachments. —Bureau Report

Upgradation of school

PESHAWAR, April 3: The government has approved the upgradation of government high school Srai Bala in Talash area of Lower Dir to higher secondary level.

The government also approved 17 posts, including one post each of principal (BPS-18) and director physical education (BPS-17) and 10 posts of subject specialists (BPS-17).

The newly created posts included senior clerk (BPS-7), laboratory assistant (BPS-7) and one post each of laboratory attendant (BPS-1), naib qasid (BPS-1) and chowkidar (BPS-1).

The approval was given by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti on Tuesday, according to a press release. —Bureau Report
