CHARSADDA/LANDI KOTAL, Dec 11: Unidentified militants blew up a government school for girls in Sardheri area of Charsadda district in the small hours of Sunday, police said.

They said that the saboteurs planted improvised explosive device (IED) at the building of government primary school for girls in Shah Dhand village on the night between Saturday and Sunday.

A room and veranda of the school were destroyed completely when the explosive went off, they added. They said that record and furniture of the school were also destroyed in the blast.

The residents of the area said that the blast was so powerful that it was heard in far away villages. Police reached the spot after the incident and ascertained that 10 kilograms explosives were used in the blast.

Meanwhile, Provincial Law Minister Arshad Abdullah visited the site of occurrence and ordered early reconstruction of the school. He condemned the incident and vowed to continue jihad against militancy till its logical end.

The minister directed the officials present on the occasion to prepare PC-1 for reconstruction of the building and start work o it to save precious time of children. In Khyber Agency, two militants were killed and one was injured in a clash with Akkakhel tribal lashkar on Sunday.

Officials said that volunteers of the tribal lashkar fired at a car near Dro Adda when the inmates refused to stop it for checking at a post.

The inmates of the car, believed to be members of a local militant group, also opened firing on the volunteers. The trade of fire resulted in killing of two militants on the spot while one was injured. The vehicle was also damaged when a rocket hit it.

Meanwhile, security forces temporarily suspended supplies to Afghanistan under the Afghan Transit Trade Treaty at Takhta Beg checkpost after receiving reports about secret transportation of Nato goods in the vehicles.

Security officials said that the convoy was allowed to proceed after random checking of a number of vehicles. No Nato related items were, however, found in any of the vehicles.

All the vehicles were allowed to cross the Torkham border after clearance from the authorities.
