KARACHI, Sept 26: Only two matches were decided on the first day of the 4th Subh-e-Nau Ranking Tennis Championship due to poor turn out of players here at the CDGK Sports Complex Tennis Courts on Monday.

Despite their firm commitments to appear in the tournament, several players not only failed to reach the venue but did not even have the courtesy to inform about their availability to the event management.

Mrs. Shahida Kausar Farooq, the chairperson of the Subh-e-Nau, criticised the behaviour of the players and said that they should act maturely and should be more responsible while participating in the tournaments. She said that no one could expect our players to compete in international tournaments with such erratic behaviour, adding players found guilty of no-show offence would be charged with a penalty in future.

Meanwhile, Neha Khan defeated her opponent Wania Khan in opening match of the girls U-17 contest while Uroosa Ahmed was beaten by Hania Khan in straight sets.

Men’s singles, boys U-17 and ladies singles are scheduled to start at 2pm on Tuesday.

Results: Neha Khan bt Wania Khan, 6-2, 8-6; Hania Naveed bt Uroosa Ahmed 6-1, 6-0.—Agencies
