KARACHI, July 19: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday directed the office of the provincial prosecutor general to assign without fail a lawyer to argue on an application filed by Afaq Ahmed, the chief of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi), who is seeking quashment of proceedings against him in a murder case of a worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

Petitioner Afaq Ahmed through his lawyer Mohammad Ilyas Khan said that he was in jail when a number of cases were registered against him in which he was declared abettor at the behest of the Muttahida.

Mr Khan said that the prosecution had no solid evidence to link him with this case lodged in June 2009 at the Nabi Bux police station since his client (Afaq Ahmed) was in prison.

He requested the court for quashment of the case.—PPI
