MULTAN, June 25: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf has to cancel a sit-in because of security reasons ahead of its public meeting where its chief Imran Khan is expected to announce a movement aimed at ousting the government.

The sit-in was to be staged at Nawan Shehr chowk.

Groups of PTI workers from Muzaffargarh, Melsi, Kabirwala, Bahawalpur and Vehari arrived at the venue of the meeting (District Sport Ground) being held in connection with its movement 'Hakoomat Hatao, Pakistan Bachao', chanting slogans in favour of their leader Imran Khan.

Strict security arrangements, including snap checking of vehicles, had been made to avert any untoward incident as heavy police contingent were deployed in and around the venue.

Earlier, talking to journalists on Okara bypass, on his way to Multan, PTI chief said that his party would not accept holding of next general elections under President Asif Ali Zardari as only chief justice of Pakistan could ensure a fair poll in the country.

He said the PTI was not anti-America in any way but he wanted to see Pakistan an independent state having an independent foreign policy.

He said though the recent speech of Asif Ali Zardari at Naudero was against his presidential status, there was no need of the Supreme Court taking a sou moto action against the president.

He said only Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry could hold a transparent and fair election in the country and that armed forces must back the chief justice.

He said in the 2008 general election, Gen Musharraf (retired) did the worst pre-poll rigging in connivance with the Pakistan People's Party. If the coming elections were not held under the Supreme Court's supervision, the PTI would take to the street in protest but would not boycott the electoral exercise at any cost, he added.

Imran said that talking about any future electoral alliance with any party at this stage would be premature.

He said the PTI would forge alliance only with the party whose leader would honestly declare his or her assets before elections.

He said any 'tussle' involving Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari should be taken as a 'mock quarrel'.
