LAHORE, April 27: Nairang Art Gallery showcased on Wednesday an exhibition of crafts from various regions of the country.

The craft show had indigenous crafts showcasing old and new woodworks, ceramics, hand woven fabrics and cooper and brass works from various places of Pakistan.

Nayyer Ali Dada said that there was a little promotion of crafts as compare to painting exhibitions.

“We should promote our craftsmen who are producing world class art but unfortunately we are not exploring this side of art,” he added. Mr Dada said that he had collected crafts in various mediums from Jhang, Chiniot and Multan but most of the craftsmen whose works were on belong to Lahore.

Some Moroccan art was also displayed which included a door made of camel bone and a table.

Also, a painting exhibition was also held at Ocean Art Gallery exhibiting the works by artist AS Rind. The theme of the painting exhibition was women. The paintings portraying various aspects of eastern fairer sex had Faiz Ahmed Faiz's poetry in the background. The verses were written according to mood and colour of the paintings.

Mr Rind told this reporter that whatever he was producing could not be labeled as commercial. When asked why he was not painting what was going on in the country, Mr Rind said: “Every artist has different approaches. I am into painting romanticism and that's what I love to do so.” — Staff Reporter
