LAHORE, April 25: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry has ordered to serve show-cause notices on three additional district and sessions judges of Rawalpindi for being guilty of inefficiency and misconduct while hearing cases of three prisoners.

It has also been ordered to transfer the cases to the Rawalpindi sessions judge with a direction to proceed on day-to-day hearing and conclude the trial expeditiously, said a statement issued by the LHC registrar.

It said, upon instructions by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, three inmates of Central Jail Adiala, Rawalpindi, facing murder trial before sessions court were produced before National Judicial Conference recently held at Islamabad.

On directions of CJP, the LHC chief justice perused the record and found that grant of frequent adjournments by additional sessions judges had been either for complainant’s or defence counsel’s non-appearance.

The CJ observed that the additional sessions judges must have asserted court authority in procuring attendance of the counsel.

BAIL: The LHC chief justice has allowed post-arrest bail to an accused in an easy-load service password leak case that caused Rs47.75 million loss to the Warid Telecom.

The CJ granted bail to Hasan Latif subject to furnishing of bail bonds and directed the FIA to arrest main accused Ahmed Bilal Anwar.

Accused Latif pleaded that the complainant had dragged him in the case on the instigation of some of his colleagues with mala fide intentions. He stated that he was not the only employee having knowledge of the easy-load service password but there were 30 others who could also leak it.

He said FIA arrested him on the statement of main accused Ahmed Bilal Anwar and never investigated other employees.
